Bibles for Kids Ages 2-6 Years

Bibles for Kids Ages 2-6 Years

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Psalm 119:105 ESV

A knowledge of scripture is immensely important to building a foundation of faith. Children’s Bibles, while not a replacement for actual scripture, can play an important role in nurturing a love for God’s word. These Bibles are written in easy-to-understand language to encourage independent reading. Using simple explanations, diagrams, charts, and facts about people, places, and historical events these Bibles help make difficult concepts easier to understand. Often these Bibles contain discussion questions which can lead to important conversations and teaching opportunities. This helps kids develop and grow in their own faith journey.

Bible Coloring and Activity Books

Bibles are often given as gifts from family members, church groups, or friends. If you plan to give a Bible as a gift, you should be aware that some Christians believe that any depiction of the Trinity is a violation of the second commandment, also known as “2CV’s”. This includes any image/illustration of Jesus, God, or the Holy Spirit. This conviction should be considered in your decision-making process. Since very few “no 2CV” Children’s Bibles exist, parents resort to marking out/covering up the offensive images, which is obviously not optimal. If possible, a non-2CV Bible should be gifted.

You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

Exodus 20:4 ESV

Out of respect for these brothers and sisters in Christ I will indicate if the Bibles shown in this post include 2CV’s. Please note, I was not able to personally examine each book listed. If I make a mistake and overlook an image, I apologize.

In this blog I will only address Bibles specifically written for kids from about age 2 to 6 years old. If you are interested in Bibles for younger kids, here’s a link to my post, Bibles for Babies and Toddlers.

So, which Children’s Bible to buy?

There are SO MANY to choose from, I had to narrow it down quite a bit. I based my choices on scriptural accuracy, age-appropriate stories and images, Christ-centered teachings, inclusion of ‘hard truths’ such as sin and repentance, and on engagement and follow-up using comprehension questions. An inclusion of actual passages from scripture, or at least a reference is preferred.

With that being my criteria, here are several of the best, in my opinion, Children’s Bibles for kids ages 2-6 years – in no particular order.

I hope you enjoyed this list. Please let me know if there are any kids Bibles that you use and love. (Since I did not include all of the excellent Storybook Bibles available, I will be making another post, with additional Bibles at a later date).

I will conclude by mentioning that Story Bibles are the author’s paraphrased interpretations of God’s word. As such, they should not replace reading from a real Bible, as a family if possible. It is important that kids hear God’s word and understand that it is for everyone in the family to hear, not just them. They will pick up more than you think, and it sets a good example. It also teaches them to sit still and pay attention, skills that are important for church attendance.
