Vocabulary Word Tracker

Keeping track of your student’s vocabulary words has never been easier!

This compact tracker is designed to store four weeks of vocab words, practice dates, and both a pre-test and post-test date and score. Each week’s list has room for up to 15 words.

A homeschool mom myself, I designed this page for my personal use. This is how I use it:

  1. Create a vocabulary list (or locate one online) which is age and skill-level appropriate for your child. Print this list.
  2. Break the vocab word list up into sections of 10 to 15-words, and assign each section a number- list #1, list #2, etc.
  3. Beginning with list #1, give the student a ‘vocab pre-test’ of all the words on this week’s list.
  4. Grade the test. Using this vocab tracker, write the date and the test results (i.e.  XX/15) on the line provided.
  5. Using this vocab tracker, under the heading ‘word list’ write only the words they were unfamiliar with.
  6. Date and check off each time the words are practiced during the following week in the box provided.
  7. Retest only the words on the word list at the end of the week.
  8. Write the final score beside the post-test date.
  9. Any words which are defined incorrectly on the post-test are added to the following week’s list. I mark the repeated word(s) with a dot or write it in a different color pen so I can easily track these word “redo’s”.
  10. Once the student has mastered the vocabulary definition of a word, mark them as ‘proficient’ using the tracker.
  11. Use this word tracker to periodically review and reinforce vocabulary words deemed ‘proficient’ throughout the school year.

For use in conjunction with this tracker, I made my kids a vocabulary word practice page. This file can be found here.
